Post by Simon GKevin,
I am split between the Treo and the P900, as most people seem to be.
Can you answer a few questions that the hundreds of websites do not seem to
be able to answer?
1) Does the low res screen on the treo work with all OS 5 software? Am I
right in thinking that there are some third party apps that only allow usage
on the larger res screens? (I.E the narmal res screens found on other Palm
PDA's?
Pretty much everything I've needed will work... One item of note is
the button layout is a bit different from that of older Palms. I
notice this especially when playing old games...
Post by Simon G2) Is the Treo 600 backwards compatible with older PALM OS apps? Or is this
a screen res issue too?
So far so good, but I don't use a lot of software. I find myself
using Outlook on my PC, and hotsync-ing to the Treo. That tiny
keyboard will give your thumbs a nasty cramp otherwise.
I do recall finding a website that was devoted to the treo600 that had
a list of compatible aps...
Post by Simon G3) Any pics about with the phone in someones had / next to their ear? I ask
as I am a distance from my local retailer and therefore I have to buy online
and want to see what it looks like in the real world and not just some promo
picture.
It's not the most comfortable phone in the world. It's like holding a
pack of cigarettes to your ear. The speakerphone is a lot better than
I expected, though. I find I prefer it, when I'm not out in public.
Post by Simon G4) Any pics of someone using the keyboard? I have large hands and this is a
concern for me.
You can use Grafitti or Jot to enter text with the stylus if, like me,
your thumbs seize up.
On the whole, I love my Treo, but I will say that the camera is a pale
substitute for a regular digital camera. The resolution is awful, and
unless you're standing on the surface of the sun, your pictures will
invariably turn out dark. I use it very sparingly.

P900.
Post by Simon GAny thoughts on either? Particularly the Treo 600.

Hi Simon,
Kevin from Handspring here. Obviously, I'm a little biased, but I
thought I'd post links to a couple reviews of the Treo 600 for you.

Good luck with your decision!

Hello all... a new face for the group!
I've just subscribed to this group because I've got a Treo600 on test (for
a few more days at least). I love the unit, but there are a number of
disapointments so far.
1) The camera. Blimey, they've got some awful software running the
colour correction - it's fine when you first turn it on, and then you can
see the colour draining away and everything getting darker and bluer.
Very very dissapointing - only usable outdoors in bright sunshine.
2) No Bluetooth. Be amazed, but I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out
how to turn it on. All the docs and brochures make no mension of it... so
why did I assume it had it? Because the board in the shop said "buy this
and get a bluetooth headset half price"... so I did. Duh.
3) No GPS. One of the main reasons I want a "PDA" for a phone. All
would be OK if it had bluetooth, but there are no serial cables / drivers
available for external units, and even if I could get a BT SD card, I then
wouldn't have enough memory on board to handle the maps.
4) No Bluetooth SD cards or GPS look likely either. The Palm BT card
does not work under OS5, apparently. And niether does anyone elses.
The interface is good enough, most of the games and software I've tried so
far work fine (including Mapopolis...) and the web browser does a good
job, especially as unlike most PDA browsers (including PocketIE) it
supports frames and JavaScript.

...And so as the little andrex puppy of time scampers onto the busy
dual-carriage way of destiny, and the extra-strong meat vindaloo of fate
confronts the toilet Out Of Order sign of eternity... I see it is time to
end this post.
